Arena Bear

Classification: Mutated Surface Predator
Threat Level: High
Known Habitat: Cavern forests, fungal plains, subterranean lakes

Overview

The Arena Bear is a colossal predator native to the Martian underworld, mutated over generations by the planet’s unstable environment and Grav Well fields. Standing nearly four meters tall and weighing close to a ton, it is a brute force predator built for endurance and destruction. Its scarred hide shrugs off plasma scorch and small-caliber fire, while its claws are capable of rending armor plating with terrifying ease.

Despite its bulk, the Arena Bear is not mindless. It uses cunning ambush tactics, circling prey before committing to a decisive charge. In the wild, it dominates the food chain of cavern ecosystems, hunting across fungal plains and shadowed lakes. In the Coliseum, it has been turned into a weapon of spectacle — loosed upon prisoners and strike teams as a show of the Presidium’s power.

Tactical Notes

  • Its thick hide absorbs punishment — concentrate fire on the eyes, joints, and inside of the mouth.

  • Do not engage at close range. Once it closes distance, the Arena Bear’s strength can crush exo-suits and break reinforced shields.

  • Low-frequency roars may disorient sensors and disrupt comms. Prepare countermeasures before engagement.

Field Note (Max Rourke, Coliseum Survivor)

“You hear the roar first. It isn’t just sound — it’s pressure, rattling in your chest. Then you see it. And all you can think is, this isn’t a beast we made — this is Mars reminding us who really owns the dark.
